Twin Oak Farms

Twin Oak Farms has been owned and operated by the Blevins family for nearly 75 years. Founded in 1941, the farm raised both livestock and crops with a focus on poultry. The Blevins family was one of the first poultry farming operations on Delmarva. Along with their success in poultry and produce, the Blevins operated an independent market known as “Blevins Market”. Today the farm is operated by Rick Blevins, his wife Valerie and their three sons. Besides being active with the farm the family is actively involved with numerous agricultural organizations including serving on their Boards They have continued the tradition of Blevins Market by producing value added products from locally grown produce at their very own “Twin Oak Farms”. Rick is a retiree of the Criminal Justice System and his educational background includes a Masters Degree. Rick is also an Alumnus of “LEAD Maryland”, an agricultural initiative. Rick serves on the Board of Directors of the Maryland Agricultural Education Foundation (MAEF) as well as serving on the Board of Directors of the Delmarva Poultry Industry Inc. Valerie was raised on a large Dairy farm which also had contracted poultry. During her youth Valerie learned her families’ traditional recipes including those for Value Added Foods. Valerie is a Special Education teacher off the farm and holds two Masters Degrees. Valerie is a graduate of “Annie’s Project”, an agriculture business program for women in agriculture, as well as attending a regional Women in Agriculture conference each year. Valerie holds a certification in Acidified Foods wich allows her to process and oversee the processing of acidified Value Added Foods. Valerie handles the processing of the “Value Added” food products on the farm using her family recipes as well as her own creations. Today, Twin Oak Farms is being operated as a Sole Propietorship and currently has 3-500’ x 60’ poultry houses containing over 115,000 chickens per flock. The farm has been diversified to include the production of produce as well. The produce is used for direct sales to the public at a small roadside stand located on the farm, the produce is also processed (”Value Added”) at our farm kitchen producing items such as jams, salsa, relish, and pickles.
